Household Chemical and Computer Recycling Center
The City’s first permanent Household Chemical and Computer Recycling Center is open at 1150 N North Branch on Goose Island. This facility will accept computers for recycling and will allow for the safe disposal or recycling of household hazardous chemicals.
The facility accepts the following materials for recycling or safe disposal: antifreeze, used motor oil, old gasoline, oil-based paints, paint thinners, aerosol paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, solvents, drain cleaners, cleaning products, pool chemicals, hobby chemicals, mercury, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, computers and cell phones.
These materials are accepted during the facility’s regular hours of operation: Tuesdays from 7:00 AM to noon; Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the first Saturday of every month from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Many of the electronics will be taken apart and recycled, while newer computers will be refurbished through the program and made available to local schools, churches, non-profits groups and low-income families.
Blue Drop-Off Center
Residents can bring paper, plastics and glass to the 1150 N North Branch facility. The Center accepts the same full range of materials as any recycling center and all recyclables can be tossed in together.
Streets and Sanitation
The 43rd Ward Streets and Sanitation office is located at 1358 West Webster and their phone number is 312-744-4555. You can find out your garbage pick-up day, request a bulk pick-up or submit a yard sale permit request at their office.
Chicago’s Green City Market
Chicago’s Green City Market (CGCM) is the city’s only sustainable green market, a 501(c)(3) organization. With over 40 sustainable and certified organic farmers, CGCM features a “Green Market Cafe” serving breakfast crepes, paninis, burgers and pastries, all with ingredients sourced from the Market farmers; chef cooking demos; kids educational programs; discussions about health and nutrition.
All of these features added to the ambiance of Lincoln Park and a dedicated volunteer corps makes the CGCM one of the most exciting markets in the Midwest, if not the country.
