Special Message From Rodger Owen
It has been my honor to serve on the Board LCA for several years, the last 6 of which I have served as President. As many of you already know, I am stepping down from the Board down when my term expires later this month. I am deeply grateful to my fellow LCA Board members, many of whom have worked tirelessly and selflessly for decades to make our neighborhood a more desirable place to live. It gives me great confidence to know that several of these Board members agreed to stay on the Board longer to help mentor our newer Board members. Training a new generation to follow in their footsteps as community leaders is, perhaps, the greatest legacy they could give to the neighborhood. While I will no longer be an active member of LCA’s Board, I will continue to support the organization as it continues forward with its mission. I hope to see many of you at one of LCA’s events in the coming year.
As my term comes to a close, I reflect with great satisfaction on the many contributions LCA has made to the neighborhood over the years, including many recent initiatives. In 2014, for example, we launched a new spring event, called Spring Zing. The response was so positive, we will hold are holding the event again this year on (? date). Our members also revitalized Fire Station Park making it an oasis of flowers, vegetables and spices in seven distinct garden areas within the park. LCA celebrated the park’s renaissance by hosting a neighborhood party in the park on a beautiful night last September. The 2014 edition of Howler at Bauler, LCA’s annual Halloween event, was one of our best ever. People of all ages and from Lincoln Park and Old Town enjoyed a spectacular entertainment filled afternoon at Bauler Park.
Lastly, our Board has worked together closely over the last year to create a new brand and logo for our organization. I truly believe LCA members are the heart of our neighborhood and the Board chose to honor our members by reflecting that sentiment in our new logo. Our Board also worked together over the last year to develop this new and interactive web site enabling LCA to more effectively communicate with and serve our neighborhood. This site will be continually updated and we hope you will visit often. It is a work in progress, so please send us your feedback on how we can make it better meet the needs of our members.
From the Heart,
