CRIME
ALERT
From Vi Daley's 43rd Ward Office
DECEMBER
14, 2009
Alderman
Vi Daley has alerted the community to an armed robbery within
LCA.
The
18th District Police Department has sent out an alert regarding
an armed robbery this past Sunday, December 13, 2009 at approximately
11:15PM. There are two reports of similar incidents.
A
resident was approached on the 800 block of West Dickens by a
man with a blue steel semi-automatic handgun who demanded the
victim turn over his money. After giving the offender his
wallet, the offender ran west bound on Dickens. The victim
remembers seeing a black or blue conversion type van (late 90's
or early 00's, with running boards, tinted windows, shades closed
and elongated brake lights in the back) cruising the neighborhood.
The
offender was described as a male black, 25-35 years of age,
6'01", 190 lbs., wearing a hooded jacket with fur, possibly grey
in color.
The
police do not know if there is a connection between the vehicle
and the robbery at this time. However, a similar incident
took place less than hour prior to this one on the 2000 block
of North Lincoln Avenue. A third robbery is being
investigated outside of the 43rd Ward and outside of the 18th
District but in the adjacent 19th District, I do not yet have
any solid information but understand that there were similar
circumstances.
As
always, be aware of your surroundings. If you see any
suspicious vehicles or persons, please call 9-1-1.

2009 Crime Alerts:
From Vi Daley's 43rd Ward Office
August 13
These
past few weeks have put many of us on edge. I
hope you plan on attending the safety seminar tonight at 7:00PM
at the Lincoln Park Cultural Center, 2045 Lincoln Park West. I
have been in regular contact with the Police and can assure you
that the area is being saturated with undercover police on foot,
bike and in covert vehicles. I encourage every property owner
to consider whether there is sufficient lighting around their
building. Motion detecting lights around the perimeter of
your property can be a deterrent to crimes against a person or
their property. Businesses that have cameras recording activities
in and near their properties have proven helpful on numerous occasions. If
your business is considering installing a camera, the police and
I would strongly support that investment. Cameras can protect
you, your employees, your clients and your neighbors.
August 2
The

The
offenders have been described as male, Black and Hispanic,
early 20's. One

maroon colored car.
If
you are out late at night or during early morning hours, avoid
secluded areas (parks, alleys, vacant lots). Be aware of
your surroundings, walk in groups and always call 9 - 1 - 1 to
report any suspicious activity. Travel in groups and
follow-up with phone calls to ensure everyone in your group arrives
home safely.
