Community Maintenance Program
2009

Bauler Park is a wonderful asset to the community and a magnet for families with young children. Besides providing youngsters with various recreational activities, it serves as a village center for their parents. Last August, the park was the setting of a Harris Bank TV commercial (a young boy finds his lost dog near the park’s swings). and last fall, a Halloween event attracted hundreds of costumed children and adults.

The park’s appearance is the result of the involvement and generosity of local neighbors. Over the past seven years, more than $55,000 has been raised for new plantings, new benches, a sprinkler system and the restoration of the Wisconsin Street parkway. The 2008 campaign raised $6,175, which provided for the remulching of the plant beds, tree trimming and cleanup after last Augusts’ severe storm (several small trees were lost) and general maintenance to supplement the work done by the Chicago Park District. $1,945 remains in the Bauler Park fund.

For 2009, the Advisory Council has set a goal of $5,000, which will fund additional plantings and maintenance. Some new plants are required to fill in areas where plants have died. The scope of our efforts will be dictated by the success of this campaign. The more funds raised, the more improvements can be made. All contributions are tax deductible.

The Advisory Council is also seeking more volunteers to help out on the two events planned for this summer and fall – a movie/picnic on July 21st and the Halloween party. We look forward to neighbors coming out to celebrate the park! Please let us know if you are interested in helping out!
